Man Of Science, Man Of Faith, And Why The Sixers Are Lost

jackandlockehatch2Remember the middle of the third season of Lost? That was when Sawyer and Kate spent a ton of time chilling in bear cages, Jack was off tossing the pigskin with The Others, and two-dimensional, peripheral characters like Nikki, Paulo, and Phil Pressey were given major screen time. After two seasons of captivating mystery, the show was still providing more questions than answers. Viewership was dipping and even loyal fans were finally becoming anxious.

That’s when ABC executives brought in show-runners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse and said, “Hey, we should really start planning an ending to this thing. … Read the rest

Ranking the Names of Every Sixer on the 20-Man Roster

With the season finally in sight, we had to take the time to perform at least one more pointless exercise. Without further ado, an official ranking of every 76er based on their name. Note that performance on the court isn’t a factor here whatsoever; we’re merely looking at each name for uniqueness, cadence, how effortlessly it glides off the tongue, and whether or not it sounds like the name of a potentially great basketball player. Without further ado:

20 – 18. Gerald Wallace, Carl Landry, Kendall Marshall – All violate the “no two first names” rule. Immediate disqualification.

Five Things You Learn From the New Allen Iverson Book

As part of a wholescale dedication to improve myself, I’ve made a concentrated effort to read more this year. So when my birthday came along the other week, you can imagine how thrilled I was to get the new Allen Iverson book alongside the latest volume of Brian K. Vaughan’s Saga. What could go wrong?, I thought at the time. A biography about my absolute favorite athlete ever, the six-foot-zero man who cared greatly about the outcome of every regular season he played, making a sports fan out of 12-year-old me through sheer passion for the game? This will … Read the rest

One Week Later: How the Nik Stauskas Trade Has Changed Our Lives

Remember last Wednesday? Many NBA fans probably don’t, because that was the day we were captives to Twitter like Deandre was captive to the Clippers, as free agency opened and Woj bombs flew like confetti for 24 hours straight. By nightfall, I knew I had to get out of the house. A friend of mine was celebrating his birthday, so I took him out for a beer, a side of garlic knots with marinara Sauce, and a vow that I wouldn’t look at my phone for two hours.

Upon returning home, I found I had several text messages that read, … Read the rest

Finding Playoff Destinations For The 15 Sixers

This once-fun regular season is finally coming to an end, and after doing some number crunching, it’s become apparent that the 2015 76ers will not be getting one of those coveted 16 playoff spots.

But here’s a fun hypothetical: if the Sixers disbanded and their players were put in a playoff draft pool, who would be the best fit where?

We’ll start with …

Henry Sims, Atlanta Hawks. Sims probably isn’t cracking Atlanta’s rotation. (Note: recurring theme.) But think of all the garbage time minutes the most boring Sixer could potentially get on the most boringly good team in the … Read the rest

76ers’ Garbage Time Unit Attempts to Give You Cheaper Crappy Pizza for Championship Sunday, Fails

Philadelphia 76ers 89 Final
Recap | Box Score
107 Detroit Pistons
Nerlens Noel, C 24 MIN | 3-7 FG | 1-2 FT | 7 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 2 BLK | 2 TO | 7 PTS | -20 +/-

By no means was this game a step backwards for Noel, but against stiffer competition in Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond, he failed to establish tempo and momentum like he did a night ago. Like most starters, Noel didn’t play many minutes in a blowout second half, but for a player trying to establish consistency, tonight remained
