Piston Powered updated the lottery projections on Wednesday, and there’s both good news and bad news for the Sixers. Their odds of landing the #11 pick dropped from 66 percent to 51 percent, but their odds of landing the #12 pick rose from six percent to almost 28 percent. (Again, these projections were updated on Wednesday.)

Tonight’s game against the Wizards could shake up the lottery scene. Washington is just … Read the rest

Last week, Piston Powered’s Dan Feldman enlisted the help of ESPN Insider Kevin Pelton to project how each lottery team would finish in the standings along with their likelihood of landing each pick in the draft. (Basically, it’s a cleaner, more scientific version of the Tank Rank.) As of last Friday, it gave the Sixers a 66% chance of landing the No. 11 pick and a 3.6% shot of Read the rest

Tank Rank

I have some bad news. I’m just going to get it out of the way now, and I’m going to do it quickly, like tearing off a Band-Aid. Are you ready?

(Are you sure?)

Okay, here we go:

DougCollinsisstilltryingtowingamesandtheSixershaveareallyeasyschedulethisweek.

Did that help at all? I hope it did. As Tom Sunnergren noted on Wednesday, Doug Collins still wants to win basketball games. Is it going to help in the short term? Nope. The Sixers definitely aren’t making the playoffs. Is it going to help in the long term? Nope. They’re throwing away ping pong balls.

To make matters worse, Read the rest

When Hoop76 debuted the Tank Rank last week, I basically just eyeballed each team’s schedule and guesstimated which ones looked harder than others on paper, making slight adjustments based on which teams seemed amenable to various “tank” tactics (like shelving core players with exaggerated or bogus injuries). This didn’t strike me as the most scientific approach.

So this week, I turned to a nifty metric called Simple Rating System Read the rest

Game 66 Preview: March Sadness

Philadelphia 76ers (25-40; 19-17 Home) vs. Portland Trail Blazers (31-34; 9-23 Home)

Time: 7:00 PM ET
Offensive Rating: Philadelphia – 99.0 (27th); Portland – 103.6 (10th)
Defensive Rating: Philadelphia – 102.8 (13th); Portland – 105.6 (25th)
Vegas: Philadelphia -1

Preview: With the NCAA brackets released last night, a lot of people’s focus will be shifting to college hoops, and for good reason. March Madness is exciting. A mid-March NBA game between two teams that (in overwhelming likelihood) will miss the playoffs is not very exciting. This still should be a solid matchup considering the circumstances. The Sixers are playing well, … Read the rest

The Sixers’ tanking tracker

The Sixers are eight and a half games out of the Eastern Conference playoffs and John Hollinger’s odds give them a 0.0 percent chance of advancing to the postseason. It’s safe to say they won’t be playing any more than 82 games.

But don’t despair. While their championship hopes are dead, their Ben McLemore/Nerlens Noel dreams are alive and kicking — so long as they out-tank the non-playoff teams and get a little lottery luck.

With this in mind, Hoop76 will be posting a weekly column to help you track Read the rest
