5-on-5: This Starts When?

1. Are the Sixers going to pursue some bigger names in restricted free agency this summer, or does the JaVale McGee waiving lead you to believe that will come in 2016 or later?

Eric Goldwein: They’ll do their due diligence and pursue, and while I don’t anticipate them landing a big piece (Kawhi, Butler, Green), it shouldn’t be ruled out either. The Sixers have incentive to compete next season, as putting a decent team in the floor makes them more appealing to potential free agents, (and their current players who might eventually become frustrated with this situation.) If there’s a … Read the rest

Woj: Sixers Claim Thomas Robinson Off Waivers

Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the Sixers have put in a last-second claim on 2012 fifth overall pick Thomas Robinson and the $3,678,360 remaining on his contract. The Kansas product is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer after his option was declined by Portland, prior to his trade to the Nuggets, who waived him at his request.

Heat Top Sixers, 119-108

Philadelphia 76ers 108 Final

Recap |   Box Score

119 Miami Heat
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, PF 30 MIN | 3-11 FG | 0-2 FT | 5 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 7 PTS | -4 +/-Luc is an undervalued defender, but with the team taking more of an offense-first approach the rest of the way, Grant may be a better fit starting with Covington and J-Rich once he gets healthy. Mbah a Moute takes a ton of long twos as well (unsuccessfully), and we saw several of those tonight.

5-on-5: All-Star Week Edition

1. What is the best, realistic return the Sixers could get for Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (who’s on an expiring contract) on deadline day?

Eric Goldwein: Twenty-nine games of Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. I’m all for collecting assets, but not when the cost exceeds the value of those assets. Yes, LRMAM’s contract is expiring. And yes, there’s a good chance he’s not back next season. But he is, by all accounts, a steady veteran who might actually be helping some of the longterm pieces. Is a 45th pick in the 2017 draft worth jeopardizing team morale? That’s … Read the rest

Sixers Fall Short In Cleveland, 97-84

Philadelphia 76ers 84 Final
Recap  |  Box Score
97 Cleveland Cavaliers
Robert Covington, SF 34 MIN | 6-13 FG | 2-3 FT | 3 REB | 4 AST | 7 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 18 PTS | -16 +/-Perhaps Bob’s most convenient trait is his confidence — if he starts out cold, he won’t hesitate to keep gunning. That confidence came in handy tonight as he heated up late in the fourth and led the team on a run that, although ultimately came up short, proves yet again that this team plays hard (and well)

5-on-5: Sixers Midseason Report Cards

1. Michael Carter-Williams:

Eric Goldwein: C. We don’t know how much the shoulder is affecting him. We also don’t know how much the lack of teammates is affecting him. He’s shooting terribly and he’s not taking care of the ball. That’s a concern. What we do know: he’s still (by default) the best option the Sixers have at point guard, which  is evident when Larry Drew/JaKarr Sampson/Tony Wroten run the show. What he does the rest of 2015 will tell us a lot.

Wesley Share: C. His shooting is down across the board, he’s getting to the line at … Read the rest
