Bird Feed: Pelicans Crush Sixers by 37

Philadelphia 76ers 98 Final

Recap | Box Score

135 New Orleans Pelicans
Thaddeus Young, PF 24 MIN | 5-11 FG | 1-2 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 11 PTS | -26It’s hard to get into the flow of the game when your shot is constantly getting blocked into the third row. Credit Young for not shying away from Anthony Davis’ length, but after awhile it just got sad.
Evan Turner, SF 26 MIN | 2-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 4 PTS | -27Game 11 did not go like the first 10 for Evan Turner. E.T. struggled from the opening tip, airballing a couple jumpers and failing to convert on his drives to the basket.
Spencer Hawes, C 25 MIN | 4-11 FG | 5-6 FT | 4 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 14 PTS | -21The Pelicans drove to the basket at will tonight, and Hawes did little as the last line of defense.
Tony Wroten, SG 35 MIN | 6-16 FG | 5-6 FT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 19 PTS | -33Good things happen when Tony Wroten drives to the basket. Unlike the rest of his teammates, Wroten actually had some success when he got to the rim. Brett Brown implored his team to move the basketball on offense, but the ball seemed to stick in Wroten’s hands too many times.

Philly made a concerted effort to get to the hoop, finishing with 52 points in the paint. Still, Anthony Davis’ ability to protect the rim and impact the game on the defensive end made it a long night for Philly. The Sixers just don’t have the firepower to overcome large deficits. Defensively, the Sixers had way too many missed assignments. Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon had wide open 3-point opportunities all night long.

By the Numbers: 16: The number of blocked shots for the Pelicans tonight.

Quote of the Game: “I have no sense of humor about losing.” – Rafael Nadal

Parting Shots: Just an ugly game from start to finish. Even for the defensively challenged Sixers, 135 points is a lot of points to give up. The Sixers could not account for the Pelicans’ length on defense and struggled to contain Ryan Anderson and Tyreke Evans off the bench. The Sixers are now 0-2 on their three game road trip, and only have one day to right their many wrongs.
