Last week, Piston Powered’s Dan Feldman enlisted the help of ESPN Insider Kevin Pelton to project how each lottery team would finish in the standings along with their likelihood of landing each pick in the draft. (Basically, it’s a cleaner, more scientific version of the Tank Rank.) As of last Friday, it gave the Sixers a 66% chance of landing the No. 11 pick and a 3.6% shot of … Read the rest

Eric: Happy Holidays! Why not celebrate with a Hoop76 chat? This week we discuss tankage, the rise of Spencer Hawes, and the Holiday Bros. The following is a loosely edited gchat convo.
You’re So Vain, Ol’ Pick
Eric: Last night I was looking through some Doug Collins photos – just a typical Wednesday evening – and I came across a gem from a 1973 Sports Illustrated. So that led me to checking out Curry Kirkpatrick’s story, “Ol’ Pick And A Lot Of Slick Comin,” which was written after the controversial gold medal game against the Soviet Union, but … Read the rest

This didn’t strike me as the most scientific approach.
So this week, I turned to a nifty metric called Simple Rating System … Read the rest

According to a leading sports physician, the Sixers could benefit greatly by rethinking how they train.
With the amount of lip service paid to the gestalt of team sports—the way units mesh, the interactions, the granular “how this piece complements this one” analysis—it’s easy to lose sight of a plain fact: basketball teams are comprised of players. And when your five are better than the other guy’s five…well, the other guys better have a powerful gestalt working in their … Read the rest
